Many people believe that the red color coral is real "red coral", actually a majority of the red color corals are not real ones.

Red coral is just only a small group in coral species. Nowadays, more than 6,000 kinds of corals have been discovered by people, the amount of different kinds of species which have been recorded is about 400 in China, but the real species are only 26.

As real red coral, it should contain the following features:
(1) The skeleton is hard enough for carving,
(2) The color is flamboyant and it will never fade,
(3) The chemical composition contains calcium carbonate with high level magnesium. With this method we can tell them apart from other kinds of corals. In fact, the colors of real red corals also have dark red, pink, orange or white.

Red corals in the South Sea
The mysterious red corals are rare and they only grow in deep ocean. As a result, it is rather hard for people to find them in the boundless sea, just like looking for a needle in a haystack. However, in the recent years, through the hard work of Chinese scientists, we finally found the real ones in the South Sea, it made a great contribution to enlarge the ocean resources. But considering the business competition and the need to protect the national resources, the specific birthplace is still in the secret. However, according to the living need of red corals, there will be great chance to find them in those deep seas with hard lithosphere, without surface sediment, 8 centigrade to 20 centigrade in temperature, low illumination and clear water environment.

Value of red corals
The expensive thing is often rare in the world. To red corals, because the growth is slow, and they have long life, flamboyant color and the low production, the value of them is increasing sharply. The researching data shows that they can only reproduce after 10 to 12 years' growth. What's more, they won't increase over 1 cm after one year's growth, though with over 7 years of growth, the diameter in trunk is still less than 1 cm. Only in place where can find them with more than 3mm to 10mm in diameter of trunk can be recognized as the red rural fisheries.
